The biggest injury blow for Manchester City this season was the ACL injury suffered by Rodri in September during City’s 2-all draw with Arsenal at the Etihad. City’s midfield general’s absence has stood out all season long. There’s an argument to be made that Manchester City’s season never recovered from losing Rodri. It’s only been recently that Pep Guardiola’s side has found a solution to the absence of the Spanish international.
Currently, Rodri is continuing his recovery from the injury. The Spanish international is continuing to work his way back from injury. But in the background to this, a new report from Football Insider has revealed that Real Madrid continues to have an interest in signing City’s midfield general. But it is also included in the Football Insider report that it appears likely that Rodri will sign a long-term contract extension with Manchester City.
Pete O’Rourke has reported for Football Insider that Real Madrid’s interest in signing Rodri will lead to Manchester City offering him a long-term contract extension. Furthermore, O’Rourke reports that City are desperate to get Rodri back to full fitness. Lastly, O’Rourke adds that despite Real Madrid being interested in signing Rodri, the expectation is that Rodri will sign a new deal at the world champions.
There has been no indication that Rodri would look to leave City in the near future. Real Madrid may have an interest in signing Rodri but it’s hard to see that move happening. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see City’s midfield general commit his future to Manchester City. The club has given Rodri the platform to grow as a player. That growth has seen him win the Ballon d’Or and become the best midfielder in world football.
All indications are that Rodri will sign a long-term contract extension with Manchester City in time. There’s nothing to suggest otherwise. The new report from Football Insider also indicates this. For now, the most important thing is for Rodri to get back on the pitch. That will come in time, and so would a contract extension as per Pete O’Rourke’s new report.
