Neymar’s (33) move to Paris Saint-Germain remains the most expensive football transfer of all time. The Brazilian moved to the Parc des Princes from Barcelona back in 2017 for €222m and in an interview with Complément d’enquête, his former agent, Wagner Ribeiro, reflected on the historic move.

After 186 appearances, 105 goals and 76 assists at Barcelona, Neymar moved to PSG where he would go on to make 173 appearances, scoring 118 goals and registering 77 assists. During his time with Les Parisiens, he won the Ligue 1 title on five occasions, the Coupe de France on three occasions, the Coupe de la Ligue on two occasions and the Trophée des Champions four times. The UEFA Champions League title did, however, escape Neymar and his teammates during his time at the Parc des Princes.

That stay came to an end in the summer of 2023 when he made the €90m move to Al-Hilal. During an investigation special on PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the Brazilian’s former agent, Ribeiro, evoked Neymar’s historic move to the French side.

“It was an unforgettable cheque. We even took a photo of it – €220m! There won’t be any other transfers of this magnitude. It came from the Qatari bank and was written in Arabic. I didn’t understand all of it but I will never forget the figure. It was almost unreal,” he began.

Ribeiro added, “Neymar went from a salary of €25m at Barça to €40m at PSG. Nasser spent without counting because he absolutely wanted the title (Champions League). With them, there are no limits: when they want something, they get it.”
