The agent of Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies has provided an insight into the reasoning behind his client’s decision to rebuff the advances of Real Madrid, in favour of staying put in Germany.
The name of defender Davies has of course taken its place front and centre in the headlines over the course of recent days.
This comes after the long-running speculation surrounding the Canadian’s future was at last put to bed.
After several years’ worth of reports linking Davies with a free agent move away from Bayern Munich, the left-back opted to put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at the Allianz Arena.
Amongst the clubs to have expressed the most keen interest in landing Davies were the aforementioned Real Madrid, whose pursuit was essentially common knowledge.
Speaking to the media in the aftermath of his client’s renewal, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of Los Blancos’ advances was put to the player’s agent.
And Nedal Huoseh went on to confirm to Winwin (as cited by Marca) that Carlo Ancelotti’s side were indeed a real option for a transfer:
“Real Madrid was definitely a serious option, and we had conversations with them, as well as with other clubs. But in the end, a decision had to be made, and that was to stay at Bayern Munich. Of course, with all due respect to Real Madrid, who are a huge club, one of the most successful in history. It is always an honour for any player to receive an offer from a club like that, as well as from Bayern Munich or other big clubs in the Premier League. But ultimately a decision had to be made, and at first it was not easy because we were not sure what would happen with Bayern Munich, and the player was aware of that. So we kept all options on the table.”
