América are close to completing the signing of defender Jorge Meré from Bundesliga side Köln.
Meré joined Köln in 2017 and manager Thomas Kessler stated on Sunday that, after almost 100 appearances for the club, the Spaniard is set to leave Germany.
“We have agreed a deal with a Mexican club,” Kessler said.
“Jorge has been given permission to clear up some personal things. Part of which is obviously the medical.”
“I cannot say when it will take place because it is a long journey and in times of pandemic there are some conditions before he is allowed to enter the country,” he added.
Meré, who is a former Spain U-19 and U-21 international, is set to become the third signing of the winter window for Las Águilas following the acquisition of Jonathan dos Santos and Diego Valdés from LA Galaxy and Santos Laguna respectively.
