The 20-year-old has represented his country at various youth levels and has been capped twice by the senior team.

Nemeth played for Hungary at the UEFA U17 European Championship and FIFA U17 World Championship in 2019.

He signed a contract with Hamburger SV earlier this year, with a transfer fee of €750,000, until 2026.

Nemeth has made eight appearances and scored two goals for HSV, who are eyeing a return to the top flight for the first time since 2018 and are currently third in the 2. Bundesliga table.

We recently had the opportunity to chat with Nemeth about his journey in professional football.

You are regarded as one of the up-and-coming talents of the Hungary team – how does that feel for you and how would you describe your style of play?

I think we have many great players also in the U21 team – it is good to hear that though. The way I play is what is needed for the team – my focus is to play to function well within the system of the team.

You were born in South Africa but have lived most of your life in Hungary – what is the difference?

I was very young when we lived in South Africa, so it is difficult to compare but Hungary is home. I also like Belgium though.

You also qualify by birth for South Africa – could you imagine playing for the ‘Bafana Bafana’ team?

I want to play at the World Cup. I don’t know what will come, but I am happy playing for Hungary.

Tell us about playing in Belgium – how was the experience?

I had a great development in the youth at Genk. I was even the leading scorer at the Ferenc Puskas tournament which we won ahead of Real Madrid and Bayern – that was great.

Our club are visited by many international agents all the time. Genk is a top club in Belgium. I have worked hard to be part of the first team.

Can you imagine playing in the Premier League?

Every player would like to play in the Premier League. I am a fan of Manchester United so I would love to play for them – maybe it will happen. I would like to play in the Champions League – that’s most important right now.

Borussia Dortmund are famous for developing youth – would that be a club you would like to play for?

I like Dortmund also. I follow some Dortmund matches on television – they are a huge club and they have great fans and a great stadium.
