The England forward has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this month after being dropped by new manager Ruben Amorim and later admitting that he is ready for a new challenge.

Rashford has not played for United since being substituted early in the second half of a 2-1 win away at Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League last month, dropped entirely by Amorim for Premier League clashes with Manchester City, Bournemouth and Wolves in addition to the Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat at Tottenham.

The 27-year-old was finally recalled to a rather depleted matchday squad for Monday night’s visit of Newcastle in the top-flight, though remained an unused substitute as United finished 2024 by suffering a third straight home league defeat for the first time since 1979.

Strong denial: Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford insists he has held no talks with any agency

The opening of the January transfer window has only brought more headlines regarding Rashford’s future, with The Sun reporting on Tuesday that he had stepped up his attempts to secure a move away from United by holding talks with leading sports agency Stellar Group, who also played a leading role in Gareth Bale’s then world-record £85million move from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.

However, the player himself has now taken to social media to reject those reports, writing on his Instagram Stories on New Year’s Day: “Been a lot of false stories written over [sic] past few weeks, but guys this is getting ridiculous - never met with any agency and don’t have any plans to.”

Rashford’s return to the United squad against Newcastle came amid a raft of absentees, with the likes of captain Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte both suspended and Mason Mount, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw all out injured.

When asked why Rashford did not come off the bench against Newcastle as he called on the likes of fellow substitutes Alejandro Garnacho and the oft-criticised Antony instead, Amorim - who admitted that free-falling United are in a relegation battle - told reporters: “I think about the team.

“You think a lot about Marcus. I think about the team. When I’m there I’m not making a point. I just want to win the game.

"And you can feel it – I’m talking about the idea and the fight for relegation. Do I want to make a point during a game? No, I just want to win the game."
