Angus Gunn drops honest Norwich City exit claim

Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn has revealed that no reason was given by the club over releasing him.
Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn has revealed that there "wasn't really a conversation" about his future with Norwich City and that he only had a "two-minute" conversation about it with Sporting Director Ben Knapper prior to being released at the end of April.
Gunn has been with the club since 2021, having signed from Southampton for an undisclosed fee.
Along with Onel Hernández and Jacob Sorensen, he will leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts, a decision made by the club at the end of April despite having only sacked head coach Johannes Hoff Thorup a week earlier.
Gunn told BBC Radio Norfolk: "As a fan and player, I would've liked a conversation to see what we could do.
"But I'm a professional as well and I know what I'm worth and if this club is not going to align with that then I'm happy to go elsewhere."
Over his four years with Norwich, Gunn racked up 114 League appearances, including nine in the Premier League.
He also spent a season there on loan from Manchester City at the very start of his senior career in 2017/18, making another 46 appearances for the Canaries. He made 35 appearances for them in the Championship last season.
It's no surprise to see Gunn describe himself as a "fan" when he's the son of former Norwich goalkeeper Bryan Gunn, who played in goal for the Canaries between 1986 and 1998, and who also had a spell managing the club in 2009.
Bryan Gunn made 404 appearances for the club and was their first-choice goalkeeper when they finished third in the Premier League in its first season.
Norwich's 2024/25 season was a disappointment, with the team finishing in 13th place in the Championship table, their joint-lowest final league position since 2018.
Manager Johannes Hoff Thorup was sacked on the 22nd April, following a 3-1 defeat to Millwall, with the former Arsenal star Jack Wilshere taking over as interim manager until the end of the season.
Wilshere remains the favourite to get the job, though others have also been linked to the vacant position.
For four seasons between 2018/19 and 2021/22, Norwich became arguably the definitive yo-yo club, winning the Championship title before getting relegated straight back from the Premier League in 20th place twice.
But in the three years since their last relegation, that momentum has stopped. In that time, they've only reached the playoffs once, losing 4-0 on aggregate to Leeds at the end of the 2023/24 season.
As an international goalkeeper with eight years' experience in both the Premier League and the Championship, it seems unlikely that Angus Gunn will be without a club for long.
But the position of Norwich City looks somewhat less certain.
Their other goalkeeper, Vicente Reyes, signed a contract extension until 2027 in February but they remain without a permanent manager with the new window looming, and there remain no guarantees that Jack Wilshere will make the step up from the interim position when, at this time of the year, the club has a lot of alternative options for consideration.
After three seasons during which they've struggled to find the dominance that they exerted over the Championship when they won twice in three years, the club has a lot of work to do this coming summer.
