Huddersfield Town have made an approach to take Fulham winger Anthony Knockaert on loan, according to a report from Football Insider.

The 31-year-old was hardly involved in Fulham’s promotion-winning campaign last season, with Marco Silva preferring players like Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson.

Therefore, it came as no surprise that the winger was made available for loan, and in the summer, the experienced Frenchman joined Greek Super League outfit Volos.

However, this loan spell hasn’t turned out to be quite the success many would have thought, as the 31-year-old has struggled to be a regular in Greece. Now it seems the Terriers are looking to capitalise on this by taking Knockaert on loan for the remainder of the season.

Here at FLW, we have taken a look at whether this is a good move, would he start and what the winger would bring to the club…

Is it a good potential move?

Knockaert is someone who has plenty of Championship experience under his belt, having played in the division for the likes of Leicester City, Brighton & Hove Albion, and Fulham.

In this January transfer window, Huddersfield seem to be limited with their transfer budget and with their current situation in the league, so bringing in a player of Knockaert’s experience could be vital in Mark Fotheringham’s attempts to turn the club’s fortunes around.

He would provide something different to the Terriers team, and despite him not featuring much in recent seasons at the highest level, he is still a player who has a track record in this league of being among the goals and a provider of them too.

While for Knockaert, this is an opportunity for the 31-year-old to play in English football once again, many may have forgotten about him while he was in Greece. So this is a chance for the winger to get people’s attention once again, as he is out of contract in the summer and will want to earn a new deal at a club somewhere.

Would he start?

You would expect that with Huddersfield’s recent struggles in front of goal and the lack of options in the squad, Knockaert would be a certainty to start in this team.

As previously stated, he offers something different from what Fotheringham has at his disposal now. Knockaert joining the Terriers would be costly as well, as you would expect the Championship club to be paying something towards his wages at Fulham; therefore, surely, they would be doing this deal with the expectation that he plays often.

Knockaert himself will want assurances that he is going to play, as he won’t want to go from one loan spell where he hasn’t featured much to another where he is sitting on the bench again.

What does he offer?

Knockaert offers plenty of versatility; he is able to play on either wings, down the middle, and behind the striker, making him a useful asset.

He has good technical ability and is a player who is confident on the ball; he brings a dribbling technique that the club doesn’t really have at this time.

Most importantly, he has a lot of experience, and with the club currently trying to stay in the Championship, Knockaert could be someone who can prove to be useful in their attempts to stay up.
