Antwerp have announced the signing of former FC Utrecht and Lokomotiv Moscow attacker Gyrano Kerk until the end of the 2023/2023 season. Kerk has taken advantage of the FIFA rule that allows players to leave Russia and join other clubs in Europe. The rule grants players and coaches the right to suspend their employment contracts until the end of June 2023.
Kerk had his greatest success at FC Utrecht between 2016 and 2021. In 170 appearances for the club he scored 41 goals. In the 2021 transfer window the striker moved to Lokomotiv Moscow. He has played 51 games for the Russian side, scoring eight goals.
The 27-year-old fills the gap left by Michael Frey, who joined Schalke 04 on loan until the end of the season. The side are also set to lose another player to the Bundesliga in the summer, with William Pacho joining Eintracth Frankfurt for a fee believed to be €16m.
Antwerp missed out on PSV striker Yorbe Vertessen, with the 22-year-old joining Union St Gilloise instead.
