Argentina and Brazil partake in the latest installment of their historic rivalry this week as they face off in a 2026 Fifa Men’s World Cup qualifier.
The two nations are ranked number one and three respectively in the world, which is also where the two sides lie in the Conmebol standings. With six South American teams qualifying directly for next summer’s tournament, neither are in danger of missing out.
Unfortunately for those tuning in to see Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr, neither player will be in action. Messi pulled out of the squad before the international break with a minor injury.
The Inter Miami star sustained a low-grade adductor muscle injury during the 2-1 victory over Atlanta United on 16 March. His former Barcelona and PSG teammate picked up a muscular issue during Santos’ 2-0 win against Bragantino on 2 March.
Brazil are looking for their first win over Argentina in six years. The World Cup holders have won three of the last four encounters by a 1-0 scoreline, with the other game being a scoreless draw.
The match will kick off at midnight UK time at the Mas Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires on Wednesday, 26 March.
The game will be broadcast live in the UK on Premier Sports 1.
