Liverpool boss Arne Slot has praised the performance of Ryan Gravenberch in the crucial 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The Merseyside club cruised to a comfortable victory at Selhurst Park on Saturday thanks to an early goal from Diogo Jota, and some impressive defending from Liverpool's impenetrable back four. Gravenberch also caught the eye with another standout midfield performance, completing 92% of his passes and creating two chances from a number six position.

The Dutchman did much to woo over Reds boss Slot, who sung the praises of the midfielder in his post-match press conference.

"He has certain characteristics to play number six," he told reporters. "One of them is that he's really comfortable with the ball, he knows what to do with it and he’s really good. Also his one, two touch passes.

"He's comfortable at turning away from his man so he can create an overload. If you make a highlights video of him you'll mainly show his offensive work, but he's tall, he can run, he's strong in duels and the positive for him is he can play higher up the pitch.

"Everyone is always talking about his goals and assists and he needs to do more in this position. It's helpful for him to play in front of Virgil [van Dijk], to play next to [Alexis] Mac Allister too."

Liverpool will now enter the international break atop of the Premier League table, with a clash with Chelsea awaiting their return on 20 October.
