Hull City have endured a dreadful first half of the season, with the Tigers accruing just 15 points from their opening 19 games.

Having sacked Liam Rosenior after closely missing out on the play-offs in 2023-24, Acun Ilicai's decision to replace him with Tim Walter was a dreadful one.

The German head coach has since been sacked after winning just three league games and his replacement arrived from Reading last week in the form of Ruben Selles.

Selles will be hoping to restore belief among his players and inspire a turnaround, as his team seeks to avoid relegation to League One.

However, in comparison to last year, the squad looks a lot weaker with the likes of Jacob Greaves and Jaden Philogene departing in the summer.

Tigers pundit, Ryan Frankish, to get his take on the topic.

Mohamed Belloumi detailed as Hull City's most expensive player

He said: "I would say Mohamed Belloumi has the highest price tag, but he is out for the season.

"Even so, it would be around £3.5–4 million, but that wouldn't compare to Greaves or Philogene.

"I don't think our players have been able to put themselves in the shop window under the last manager. It's been so chaotic and scattered; the players don't look like they're enjoying their football, they don't look inventive, and there is just no personality in their actions on the pitch.

"So, I would have to say Mohamed Belloumi."

Ruben Selles won't see Belloumi on the pitch for a while

Disappointingly for Selles, he won't have the opportunity to work with Belloumi for a while after he was ruled out for the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury (ACL).

Picking this up in early November against Oxford United, the Algerian was one of the few players who had impressed during the early season. Across 10 fixtures, the winger notched two goals and two assists and persistently ranked high in key statistics like chances created, successful dribbles and crosses per 90.

This injury will have proven a real setback and January may provide ample opportunity to fill the void left by Belloumi.
