Gunners are increasingly short of options in attack as season falters
Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus will undergo knee surgery after injuring the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
Jesus picked up the injury last weekend during Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United in the third round of the FA Cup.
The striker’s knee buckled when attempting to tackle United captain Bruno Fernandes and he was taken off the pitch on a stretcher.
Jesus has since undergone scans and seen a specialist, with Arsenal confirming on Tuesday evening he has damaged his ACL.

The Brazilian, who had scored six goals in his last six games before getting injured against United, will have surgery in the coming days.
A statement from Arsenal read: “Further to being substituted during our match with Manchester United on Sunday, Gabriel Jesus has received extensive assessments, scans and specialist reviews which have confirmed that he has sustained an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
“Gabby will undergo surgery in the coming days and will soon begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme.
“We will continue to keep everyone updated with Gabby’s recovery, with everyone at the club fully focused on supporting Gabby to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
The news of Jesus’ injury is a hammer blow to Arsenal as they are already short on attacking options.
Bukayo Saka is out until March

Bukayo Saka is out until March after tearing his hamstring last month, while Ethan Nwaneri is not due back for another week or so because of a muscle injury.
Arsenal are under pressure to bring in a new forward this month as the January transfer window is open - and Arteta has confirmed they are on the hunt for reinforcements.
“We are actively looking in the market to improve the squad, and that’s been the same since day one,” he said.
“It would be naive not to do that because it is always an opportunity to evolve the team and improve the squad, especially with the circumstances.
“So yes, we are looking and we are trying and let’s see what we are able to do.
“When you have to recruit a player, there are three parties and you have to agree to that. We have our limitations like any other club, so we can do what we can do. We plan our squad and we have our limits to do what we want to do, and that’s it.”
