Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has suffered a setback in his recovery from his ankle injury and is not expected to return to action until December, according to scout Con Harrison.

The Gunners uploaded a clip of the Norway international midfielder earlier this week, leaving fans hopeful that he was nearing a return.

However, Odegaard could reportedly remain on the sidelines until around Christmas, which could be a huge blow for manager Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal have done well without their captain, holding on to their unbeaten run across all competitions, but being without his creativity in the middle of the park has been telling.

Arteta has had to change his plans without his creator-in-chief, but Arsenal could struggle in the final third in some of their games going forward in the absence of such an influential player.

They return to action after the October international break with a trip to Bournemouth before hosting Shakhtar Donetsk and Liverpool afterwards.

The Gunners will then face Preston North End, Newcastle United, Inter Milan and Chelsea before the November international break.

Odegaard will also miss the game against Manchester United on December 3 from every indication.

Arsenal are looking to go one better in the Premier League title race this term after near misses in the last two campaigns.

They need the midfielder to return to action sooner rather than later.
