Arsenal left-back Kieran Tierney has agreed a move to Celtic in the summer transfer window, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.
The 27-year-old left the Scottish outfit to join the Gunners in 2019 for a reported £25 million fee, but has been beset by injuries in recent years.
Tierney has fallen out of favour with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, making just two Premier League appearances this term after spending last season on loan with LaLiga side Real Sociedad.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s Uefa Champions League tie against Aston Villa, Rodgers also confirmed that on-loan left-back Alex Valle has returned to Barcelona.
The defender will reportedly undergo a medical at Cesc Fabregas’ Como 1907 after Barcelona agreed a six-month loan deal in principle.
Celtic are set to discuss the conditions of a possible loan deal until the end of the season with Arsenal, according to Sky Sports News.
Asked if Valle’s departure could lead to Tierney re-signing for Celtic this month, Rodgers said: “Ideally it would [happen in January] but, at this moment, he’s still an Arsenal player.
“I think everyone is agreed that it will definitely take place in the summer. If we can do it beforehand, then great.”
On Valle, Rodgers added: “Alex won’t play again, sadly. He’s in Barcelona at the moment and he will probably then move on to another team.
“He’s another young player that’s contributed really well for us, played nearly 20 appearances, played in some very important games, made his Champions League debut and, especially at Atalanta, he was fantastic.
“We’re disappointed he’s left, but we have to move on.”
