Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta claimed his side have got their title-chasing momentum after they hit five past sorry West Ham in a crazy first half at the London stadium.

The impressive win moved them up to second in the early season Premier League table and was sparked by a trademark Gabriel header from an early corner. Leandro Trossard, Martin Odegaard and Kai Havertz were also on the score sheet. West Ham responded with two goals of their own before Saka struck with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Emerson almost making a match of it

West Ham could not cope and conceded the fifth as Bukayo Saka struck from the penalty spot to mark his 15th Premier League goal involvement this season. Only Liverpool’s Mo Salah on 16 has a better tally to date and Arteta was naturally keen to praise his Starboy.

The Arsenal manager said: “He was incredible. Because it is the hardest thing to do in football, so a player who can believe in those moments can impact the scoreline in that way, you know, the value of that is tremendous. Even if the opponent knows what he is going to do, he continues to do it and that’s a credit to him.”

Arteta also warned his side not to get complacent after this display followed quickly on from last weekend’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest and a midweek 5-1 Champions League victory away to in-form Sporting.

He added: “We are in a great moment right now, but in football be on your toes and prepare the best possible way for tomorrow. Because it is so competitive this league, the opposition that we’re playing every three days, that’s the only thing that you can do. We can analyse a lot of things to improve today, again tomorrow.”
