Arsenal’s manager started his press conference by confirming that Ben White and Thomas Partey will be available for the midweek fixture.

White took part in training ahead of the trip to Madrid. Partey, who limped off against Brentford last weekend, is also in contention for a place in the squad.

Arteta said: “The positive one is Ben White – he managed to train with us today, so he will be in the squad.

“Thomas Partey is available – he had a niggle in the game, that’s why he had to come off. But he felt good after the last few days, so he’s fine.”

However, Arteta confirmed Jorginho will miss the game after picking up a knock against Brentford.

Arteta discussed his team’s mindset and the importance of understanding the nature of such big fixtures.

“There are things that are in your hands and things that are not,” Arteta said. “The level of uncertainty. We need to train for that not to happen.

When asked if there was any fear going into the clash, he responded: “I would not use that word. No fear, only respect.”

Arsenal must be at their best to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 2008/09.

Manchester United knocked the Gunners out on that occasion.
