kicker reports that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in bringing Atletico Madrid midfielder Arthur Vermeeren to the BayArena but the Belgian is hesitant of a move.
Despite signing Aleix Garcia this summer, Leverkusen continue to look for reinforcements in midfield as they look to deal with competing in the Champions League as well as defending their Bundesliga title. Leverkusen currently have four first-team quality midfielders, but Exequiel Palacios is currently out injured and Robert Andrich is also considered to be able to play central defence.
That is why Die Werkself are courting Vermeeren. The 19-year-old would provide more than adequate cover and would be a big improvement on the now departed Gustavo Puerta and Noah Mbamba. Since moving to Madrid in January of this year, Vermeeren has only played five times in La Liga.
However, the midfielder is hesitant to move to Leverkusen as the aim would be for him to get more playing time, but in Germany, he will face fierce competition in the midfield places and would have a better chance of playing more regularly somewhere else such as Valencia.
RB Leipzig have also had a continued interest in Vermeeren, reports Sky Germany. The Belgian is one of several names of interest to Leipzig but they are also aiming to improve other areas of their squad before the end of the window.
