Wave announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
The 32-year-old Canadian international has signed a two-year deal with Wave while both parties have an option to extend the arrangement by a further year. It is understood that Wave have paid an undisclosed fee to Aston Villa to secure the player’s services.
Leon joined Aston Villa in summer 2023 and she has gone on to score eight goals in 29 appearances for The Villans in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The forward helped Aston Villa to record a seventh-place finish last term. Leon has also turned out for West Ham United and Manchester United in her time in England.
After sealing her move to San Diego Wave, Leon said “I’m incredibly excited to join San Diego Wave FC and can’t wait to get to work with my new teammates. This is a Club with big ambitions, and I’m ready to give everything I have to help the team succeed. The passion of the fans and the energy around this city make it an amazing place to play, and I’m looking forward to stepping on the field and representing San Diego with pride.”
Aston Villa continue their season without Leon when they host Everton at Villa Park on Sunday.
