Villa could not be travelling to Parc des Princes in better shape, having hit form at an ideal time in the season.

Unai Emery’s side have won each of their last seven matches in all competitions, meaning they are well in the hunt for Champions League qualification in the Premier League, while also having an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to.

After securing a top-eight finish with victories over the likes of Bayern Munich in the league phase, Villa cruised through the last 16 with a 6-1 aggregate victory over Club Brugge.

That sets them up nicely to face runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG, who toppled league phase winners Liverpool on penalties in the round of 16.

Aston Villa team news vs PSG

The good news for Villa is that PSG loanee Marco Asensio is eligible to face his parent club.

Having made substitute appearances against Club Brugge, the Spaniard is likely to be thrown in from the start against PSG.

Ollie Watkins is also likely to be recalled to the starting XI, having been on the bench against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

A rejuvenated Marcus Rashford should also be in from the start, but Leon Bailey is facing a race to be fit in time.

The game will be too soon for Ross Barkley, as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Rashford will be treading carefully, with a yellow card here ruling him out of the second leg, with Axel Disasi, Boubacar Kamara and Lucas Digne also a booking away from suspension.

Asensio faces parent club

Asensio has taken little time settle into life at Villa Park following his January switch from PSG.

The three-time Champions League winner scored three times during the last-16 tie with Club Brugge, all as a substitute.

Incredibly, that came after he failed to score in 10 games for PSG in the competition.

Another goal here may make him deeply unpopular at Parc des Princes, but it would mean his best ever return in a single Champions League campaign.
