Spanish news outlet Fichajes has reported that Aston Villa want to sign Barcelona forward Ferran Torres in the upcoming summer transfer window. Torres has previous Premier League experience having played for Manchester City, scoring goals and also winning the Premier League once. However, he will definitely dream of a return to England to show that he has all the ability to thrive at the elite level.

The biggest issue with the Spanish forward currently is his lack of game time. He does not get many minutes in the Barcelona playing XI, but he has still scored some crucial goals in the minutes that he has played so far in the ongoing season. Torres has scored 5 goals in 19 matches so far in the La Liga 2024/2025 season. Overall, his goals scored per 90 minutes is 0.66. Moreover, Torres’s total G/A (goals + assists) is 7 for this season. His goal involvement equates to 0.92 per 90 minutes. His non-penalty xG per 90 minutes is 0.67. He has played only 687 minutes in the La Liga so far this season.

Looking into his passing aspect of the game, Torres passes the ball roughly 26.66 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 76.80%. He also plays 1.24 key passes each game. Overall, Torres Garcia’s xA (expected assists) output is 0.25 per 90 minutes.

So, if Villa manage to provide him with consistent game time, which they definitely will, Torres will definitely want a move to the West Midlands club. He wants consistent playing time in a top league currently and hence won’t reject a move to a club where he gets to play regularly. Barcelona will also not be against the move if Villa come up with a profitable offer.

Why is he a good option?

He is a versatile attacker with a sharp eye for goal and fluid movement. His key traits include pace, technical dribbling, and precise finishing, making him lethal in the final third. Torres thrives as a winger, favoring the right, where he cuts inside onto his stronger left foot—but he’s equally effective as a central striker, using his positioning and runs to exploit defenses. His work rate and ability to press suit high-intensity systems, while his vision aids in link-up play. Adaptable and dynamic, Torres seamlessly switches between wide and central roles with flair.

Villa definitely need more qualities in their team, and the 25-year-old could turn out to be a welcome signing for the team. It remains to be seen if they manage to get the deal done, but it is almost certain that he will thrive and become one of the main players for the West Midlands club.
