Atalanta owner Steve Pagliuca weighed on the recent affairs within his side, especially the friction between Ademola Lookman and Gian Piero Gasperini, in a rare interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
“We wish to leave this matter in the rearview mirror. I think we have thanks to our recent win. We like the fire with which we play these matches. We have a great and passionate coach. He made a mistake by singling out a player.” “The Percassi family and I have concurred to a policy here at Atalanta. If things go poorly, we take the blame and look at ourselves to see what we can improve. The footballers are having a great campaign. We wouldn’t be here without the contribution of Lookman, Charles De Ketelaere, and the rest of the squad. I should name them all. We faced Club Brugge without five important contributors, who were injured. It was an emotional response by the boss and something we’re not proud of. But he is still a great gaffer.”
Pagliuca dished on the future of Gasperini.
“Luca Percassi will deal with it as usual. We’ll do what the manager believes to be the best solution for him.”
The governor hopes Atalanta will have a strong finish.
“We were luckier last season regarding injuries and refereeing controversies. Still, we’re in the top three and close to the first position. We’re very proud of what we are doing. There are 12 matches left. We wish to maintain the momentum we gained in the Empoli game and keep forging ahead. We love challenges like chasing the Scudetto.”
