The pitch invasion that took place during Atalanta-Roma on Sunday 12 May at the Gewiss Stadium sparked a lot of controversy in Italian media.

At the moment of the Nerazzurri’s second goal, scored by Sulemana, a Bergamo fan burst onto the pitch, running towards the Roma goal and kicking the ball into the net.

A provocative gesture, aimed at the Giallorossi goalkeeper Mile Svilar, who reacted by physically pushing the invader away before the stewards intervened.

According to Corriere della Sera di Bergamo, the man did not have a regular entrance ticket: he had in fact climbed over one of the gates of the stadium to access the facility.

An immediate measure was taken against him by the police commissioner Andrea Valentino.

The decision has been made to ban the individual for five years with the addition of the obligation to sign in for one year, to be respected at the beginning and end of each Atalanta match.

The fan was also reported for violating the ban on access to places where sporting events are held, further aggravating his position.

The episode has reignited the discussion on controls at the entrance to stadiums and the need to strengthen security during high-attendance events.
