Athletic Club handed Nico Williams scare ahead of Barcelona clash | OneFootball

An altogether concerning development on the personnel front has been confirmed in the Athletic Club squad on Tuesday.

This comes amid confirmation that star attacker Nico Williams was forced to sit out training earlier today.

Ernesto Valverde’s Athletic are currently in the midst of final preparations for a return to action tomorrow night, when they will face off with Barcelona for a spot in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.

The Basque outfit have already made the trip to Saudi Arabia, where Valverde’s squad were put through their paces in a training session this afternoon.

As alluded to above, however, one altogether notable absentee came in the form of Spanish international Nico Williams.

As confirmed in a statement on the part of Athletic, wide-man Nico trained separately from the rest of his teammates, after picking up an ankle problem:

‘Athletic Club forward Nico Williams has suffered a contusion in his left ankle and is currently awaiting further tests to determine the extent of the injury.’
