There’s no doubt that Iago Aspas is a Celta Vigo legend. Aside from one season each at Liverpool and Sevilla, he has spent the entirety of his career in Galicia, and despite being 37 years of age, he continues to be a vitally important player.
Aspas has three goals and two assists in six appearances at the start of this season, and he will hope to add to that when he leads Celta as captain in their MD7 fixture against Atletico Madrid on Thursday, taking place at Balaidos.
The match is a significant one for Aspas, who has been included in the starting line-up by head coach Claudio Giraldez. It will be his 500th appearances for the Galicians, which is a remarkable achievement.
One club men are a dying breed in football, but Aspas is certainly that – taking away the spells at Liverpool and Sevilla. Celta will hope that he can make a big impact against Atleti on his special day.
