Atletico Madrid are expected to be busy again next summer, although they won’t be as big-spending as they were 12 months prior. Ahead of the transfer window opening in six months’ time, they are starting to establish their position on some of their existing players, some of whom will be leaving.
Two guaranteed departures are Axel Witsel and Cesar Azpilicueta, as Marca have reported that neither will have their contracts extended. Given that both end their current deals in the summer, they will be off.
Another possible departee is Reinildo Mandava, as his contract also runs out at the end of the season. He has an automatic one-year extension that will be triggered if he pays nine more matches (45+ minutes), and although be should reach this, Atleti may allow him to leave for free in the summer, like they did with Stefan Savic in 2023.
Koke Resurreccion is the final player whose contract is up in six months’ time, and Atletico Madrid will leave the decision to renew to him. They want him to stay, but if he decides for a new adventure, they would accept it.
