Up until this week, Atletico Madrid had already parted ways with seven players so far this summer. That number eight on Wednesday, following confirmation of Stefan Savic’s expected departure, which has been in the pipeline for the last couple of months.
Savic was granted permission to leave Atleti earlier this summer, and despite returning for pre-season training last week, he has now found a new club: Trabzonspor. The Turkish Super Lig side announced the arrival of Savic on Wednesday evening, while he was still flying into Trabzon.
Savic ends a nine-year stay at Atleti, whom he joined from Fiorentina in 2015. Marca have reported that no transfer fee will be received, as the Montenegrin defender terminated his contract in order to join Trabzonspor.
Savic’s departure frees up more salary space for Atletico Madrid, who are working on several big-money signings. The arrival of Robin Le Normand – Savic’s replacement – is already taken for granted, while Artem Dovbyk is close to joining too.
