Although there are still several months remaining in the current season, FC Barcelona are already planning their moves for the upcoming summer transfer window.
One of the key objectives for the Catalan club is to sign a center-forward who can initially compete with Robert Lewandowski and eventually succeed him in the long term.
To that end, one of the strikers they have been linked with in recent months is Lille’s Jonathan David. However, according to the British newspaper The Guardian (h/t Mundo Deportivo), David might not be the only Lille player on Barcelona’s radar.
The Catalan giants are also reportedly interested in his teammate, attacking midfielder Angel Gomes. The 24-year-old Englishman could leave the French side on a free transfer this summer, as he has no intention of renewing his contract, which expires at the end of the season.
The English midfielder has been suffering from injury problems this season and has been able to accumulate only 2 goals and 1 assist in 20 matches so far.
However, his demand in the market is still high, as the Premier League side West Ham United is also looking to sign him, and has already seen a highly lucrative offer of £100,000 rejected by the midfielder.
There is no doubt that the attacking midfield position at Barcelona is already more than well-covered, with Dani Olmo, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Pablo Torre all vying for minutes in this position.
Furthermore, the Blaugranes are prioritizing reinforcements in the left wing, center-forward, and fullback positions. As a result, even if they decide to pursue Angel Gomes, it will only be considered if they have sufficient salary space remaining after addressing these primary targets.
However, Angel Gomes will be a versatile addition to the squad, who can also play on the wings and deeper in the midfield.
