FC Barcelona captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen finds himself in the headlines as a section of the club supporters have launched a social media campaign against him.
Indeed, some fans on ‘X’ have started the ‘#TerStegenOut’ campaign which has been globally trending in the past couple of days.
The campaign coincides with the La Liga champions’ well-publicised pursuit of RCD Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia, who is seen as a top priority for the summer transfer window.
While there has been no public statement by the player or the club, Ter Stegen is very upset about the campaign on social media targeting him, reports journalist Achraf Ben Ayad.
Having spent more than seven months out with an injury, the veteran German international returned to action towards the end of the season but did not play much as Hansi Flick stuck with Wojciech Szczesny in goal.

Despite that, in a recent Barça One documentary, Ter Stegen insisted that he was feeling at his best following his return and also went on to thank the club and the fans for supporting him through the ordeal.
“I have improved a lot. In the last eleven years, I have never been better physically. I feel better than ever,” he said.
“I am very grateful for how, not only the Barça fans, everyone was respectful and affectionate with me when I was injured. I’ll never forget it,” Ter Stegen added.
But the social media campaign and the criticism have left the veteran shot-stopper and club captain very upset.
Meanwhile, as far as Barcelona are concerned, reliable reports state that the club would be open to sanctioning Ter Stegen’s sale if Joan Garcia agrees to join, leaving the German international in a difficult position.
The situation is not very ideal and it remains to be seen how things develop as Ter Stegen stares at an uncertain future after 11 years at Barcelona.
