Barcelona may have sanctioned the sale of Mikayil Faye to Rennes during the last transfer window, but they certainly haven’t stopped monitoring his progress.

According to a report from SPORT, the Catalan club are still keeping a close eye on the young centre-back’s development.

Faye’s move to Rennes proved financially beneficial for Barcelona, as they sold the defender for €10.3 million. However, his new chapter at the French club had a slow start.

Due to some discomfort, Faye was sidelined, preventing him from making an appearance, not only for Rennes but also for the Senegal national team.

As a result, he was absent for both club and country during the first two international windows of the season.

Last week, however, things changed as Faye made his much-anticipated debut. Interestingly, this was against Monaco. Rennes’ coach, Julien Stephan, entrusted him with a starting position in a defensive lineup consisting of three centre-backs.

He was partnered alongside Norway’s Leo Skiri Ostigard and Ghana’s Alidu Seidu in the heart of the defence.

Although Rennes suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat, Faye’s performance did not go unnoticed. In the 71 minutes he spent on the pitch, the Senegalese defender made a strong impression with his sharp anticipation, powerful tackles, and quick reactions.

His ability to read the game and execute timely interventions was especially impressive, capturing the attention of those watching closely.

Barcelona’s continued interest in Faye comes as no surprise, especially with the potential he has shown.

Whether the Blaugrana club consider re-signing him in the future or simply benefit from his increased market value, it is clear they stand to gain from his growth.

Faye’s development remains of great interest to Barcelona, and they will be watching closely as he continues to build his reputation in France.
