Smart decisions in the transfer market are exactly what FC Barcelona are hoping to chase moving forward. After years of careless spending and unfortunate circumstances, the Catalan giants seem to have finally learned from their mistakes. With that knowledge, Barcelona can now look to operate more efficiently.

However, that does not mean that every single decision made over the last few years has been detrimental to the club. Some of the signings made over the last couple of seasons have proven to be game-changing for Barcelona, and they are proving that game after game this season with top-tier performances.

On the other hand, when it comes to the players who could not find a place for themselves, there is a different reality to address. Most of those players end up being transferred to various clubs, but those deals can sometimes include some beneficial special clauses as well.

One such scenario is that of any sell-on clause, which can then allow Barcelona to be compensated better for players who manage to find their resurgence elsewhere. Instead of transferring such players at their full asking price, the Catalan giants sell them to other sides for a notably less amount of money but with a percentage-based sell-on clause attached.

In the case of Portuguese winger Francisco Trincao, that is exactly what happened as well. Formerly a Barcelona player, he now plays for Sporting CP in Portugal after departing for the side in 2023 for a total of €10 million, which included a €3 million loan fee and a €7 million fee to make the transfer permanent. However, the agreement also included a 50% sell-on clause.

Now, that sell-on clause could end up being a big positive for Barcelona. According to Mundo Deportivo, Premier League side Manchester United has developed an interest in the 25-year-old winger and they may be tempted to sign him.

Moreover, with Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim having worked with Trincao before, both at Braga and Sporting, he is now keen to be reunited with him. This could potentially result in a €35-40 million transfer fee being agreed for him, and that would be quite lucrative for Barcelona.

That would directly mean that the Catalan club could pocket a significant chunk of cash worth around €20 million if the deal goes through. Moreover, considering the form that he is in right now, both at club level and even for his country, Trincao is in a great position to be considered a valuable asset for Sporting.

However, at the same time, the Portuguese side will need to consider their own sporting goals as well. Finding that balance between their performance on the pitch and if the player’s sale is worth the financial boost that they would receive, Sporting CP’s final decision could directly impact Barcelona as well.
