Barcelona defender could be out for two weeks after fresh injury vs Leganes; doubtful for Copa Del Rey final | OneFootball

Barcelona had to rely on an own goal from Jorge Saenz to secure a crucial win over Leganes.

While the victory will go a long way in helping Barça retain their top spot in the league table, it came at a price, with star player Alejandro Balde picking up an injury.

The incident happened in the first half, when the defender, who was otherwise having a solid game, was fighting for the ball with a Leganes player.

Although the replay did not show any ankle twist or knee injury, Balde looked in clear discomfort. He was eventually subbed off in the 41st minute of the game.

Pessimism in the Barcelona camp

Diario SPORT has offered an update on Balde’s fitness, suggesting that there is pessimism within the Barcelona camp surrounding the youngster’s injury.

It appears Balde felt discomfort in his hamstring, which is why he was taken off and replaced by Gerard Martin just before the first half whistle.

Hansi Flick confirmed in the post-match presser that Balde is not doing very well and will undergo tests tomorrow.

“Balde is not feeling very well. We will see what the tests say tomorrow,” the German coach said after the Leganes game.

The Barcelona camp is rather pessimistic and fear Balde’s injury is not a minor one. The report even suggests a minimum waiting period of two weeks, which puts his availability in doubt for the upcoming matches.

Most notably, Balde could be doubtful for the upcoming Copa Del Rey final against Real Madrid, which will be played on April 26.

A lot will be determined later in the day when Barça run a full diagnosis and figure out the extent of the defender’s injury.
