Despite being arguably the most valuable defender at Barcelona, Ronald Araujo’s future at Camp Nou is far from secure.

The Uruguayan international has been out of action throughout the course of the season so far. And although he is closing in on his return to the pitch, he has been constantly linked with a move away from Barcelona.

Most notably, Thomas Tuchel has reportedly identified Araujo as a potential target, should he replace Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Araujo inclined towards Barcelona stay

However, a recent report from Mundo Deportivo suggests Araujo is now more and more inclined towards staying at Barcelona rather than seeking an exit.

The defender had considered leaving Barcelona a few months ago, but he’s tilting towards a potential contract extension at Barça.

It appears the Uruguayan international is really excited to become a part of Hansi Flick’s new project at Barcelona. He is also keen on competing for titles.

The club, for their part, are keen on extending the defender’s contract until 2030, which will not only safeguard his future but also give Barcelona excellent leverage, should they sanction his sale in the years to come.

When will Araujo return?

Araujo is currently in the final stage of his recovery and it won’t be surprising to see him return to action in the month of November.

However, Araujo may have a difficult time finding a place in the squad even when he returns to full fitness.

That is because Inigo Martinez and Pau Cubarsi have built a solid foundation in central defence, helping Barcelona emerge as one of the most defensively efficient sides in Europe.
