The fortunes of several FC Barcelona players have changed with the arrival of Hansi Flick on the Blaugrana bench, but one player who has seen his position in the team change quite rapidly this season is the goalkeeper, Inaki Pena.
The La Masia graduate clearly enjoyed the most prominence with the first team ever since his debut this season. However, in recent months, he has once again gone back to being a substitute, as Wojciech Szczesny is now the clear starter for Hansi Flick.
There is no doubt that the Spaniard would be quite unhappy with this turn of affairs, especially after enjoying a lot of spotlight earlier in the season.
In such a context, he has also been linked with a move away from Barcelona next summer, and several sides, including Galatasaray, have already been linked with him.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo reports that another side, from La Liga, is also interested in the Blaugrana goalkeeper, i.e., Celta Vigo.
Celta’s current starting goalkeeper, Vicente Guaita’s, future as a starter is quite uncertain as even though the club is looking to offer him a renewal, they are also looking to sign another goalkeeper to be their starter going forward.
In this regard, Inaki Pena is one of the three goalies that Vigo have in mind, with the other two being Alaves’ Antonio Sivera and Almeria’s Luis Maximiano.
If this interest develops further in the coming weeks and months, Celta can turn out to be an interesting option for Pena, especially as Marc Andre Ter Stegen is set to return in the coming weeks and this will make his chances of stepping on the pitch even slimmer.
Vigo are currently standing 8th in La Liga and are in contention for a European spot in the La Liga table, and Pena’s incorporation in their team would be quite a good move for them.
