FC Barcelona spurned a great chance to close the gap to La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid last night as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Getafe.

An early goal from Jules Kounde gave the Catalans the lead away at Coliseum Alfonso Perez, but Mauro Arambarri struck back for the hosts after the half-hour mark.

Barça should have had a late chance to secure the win when he was brought down in the box by Christantus Uche, but the referee controversially did not grant a penalty.

Kounde addresses the media

Kounde was the first player to face the media after Barcelona’s tense 1-1 draw against Getafe, visibly disappointed with the outcome of the match.

“I am very frustrated. It is a shame about the draw, we had control of the game and then conceded a goal from one chance they had, it is a shame. We did not take our chances,” the Frenchman stated after the match.

When asked about what Hansi Flick had told the team at half-time, after conceding the equaliser, Kounde shared the German coach’s words:

“He told us that we had to keep playing at that pace, even more so, and that we would get more opportunities. That is what happened, but we did not take them.”

The right-back, who ended Barça’s four-game goalless streak away at Getafe, was a central figure in the controversial moment of the match, when he went down inside the box after being grabbed by his opponent in the 80th minute.

It was a decisive incident that referee Gonzalez Fuertes did not penalise, and the VAR did not intervene either. Despite the heated situation, Kounde chose not to comment further on the matter.

“I will not comment,” he said, visibly frustrated with what had unfolded on the pitch at the Coliseum.
