Barcelona have already made contacts for highly promising 17-year-old Brazilian defender | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have continued to lay a significant emphasis on the South American talent market over the years. Only in the last one and a half years, they signed and landed one of the most promising strikers to emerge in Brazil, Vitor Roque, and they are currently being linked with several young players on the continent as well.

According to Mundo Deportivo, one such South American youngster who is being linked with Barcelona is the Sao Paulo fullback Nicolas Bosshardt.

The 17-year-old defender is yet to make his debut with the Sao Paulo first team, but he has been linked with the Catalan club since last summer.

His physicality is one of his big strengths, as he stands at 176 centimetres. This size provides him with a natural advantage in aerial defending, while his offensive projection also makes him a highly interesting fullback. His contract with Sao Paulo is also expiring in 2026, and Barcelona can take advantage of this situation.

In fact, rumours in Brazil indicate that the Blaugranes have already made some contacts to assess the possibility of signing him. Deco is closely monitoring his development, especially as he plays in a position that is one of the weak areas in Hansi Flick’s team, the left flank.

The Barcelona coach has a clear starter for this position, i.e., Alejandro Balde. However, the replacements that Flick has available for him are only the two rather inexperienced defenders, Gerard Martin and Hector Fort, even though the latter is also the preferred substitute for Jules Kounde on the opposite flank.

While Bosshardt himself would not provide the experience that Flick would want in his fullback substitutes, there is no doubt that he can turn out to be a highly competent fullback in the years to come. For now, it remains to be seen whether Barcelona will bet on this South American defender after their experience with Vitor Roque.
