In a major development, FC Barcelona have issued a statement against La Liga, demanding more discretion and confidentiality from the league when it comes to the club’s financial matters.

In addition, they have also announced their decision to resign from the La Liga Delegates Commission.

The Blaugrana have formally addressed La Liga to express their “surprise and indignation” over the publication, on 2 April, of an information note by the league concerning VIP boxes at Spotify Camp Nou.

Barça have called on La Liga president Javier Tebas, as well as all members of the organisation, to refrain from making any comments or assessments regarding the economic information the club shares with La Liga, labelling such data as confidential.

The controversial note, titled “On the Corporate Operation Related to VIP Boxes Communicated to La Liga by FC Barcelona at the End of December”, was released by La Liga without prior notice or consent from Barcelona.

The Catalans consider this a breach of confidentiality and have demanded that La Liga respect the private nature of the financial documentation submitted.

The league leaders have further criticised what they describe as inappropriate conduct by La Liga, which included revealing economic details shared by the club and publicly disclosing decisions made by the governing bodies against them.

According to the club, this constitutes a “blatant violation of La Liga’s obligations to one of its affiliates, as well as a breach of budgetary commitments”.

Barcelona emphasise that La Liga remains bound by this duty of confidentiality even when similar information has appeared in the media.

The governing body and all its members, the Catalans argue, must “abstain from confirming, ratifying, or contradicting” any economic data provided by the club.

Barça also voiced concern that the publication of the note has triggered “a large-scale defamation campaign” in the media targeting both the club and their president, Joan Laporta.

Further criticism is directed at Tebas for his public comments about Barcelona players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor. The club points out that both players were “lawfully registered, as reaffirmed by the National Sports Council (CSD) in its resolution of 3 April 2025.”

Barcelona describe Tebas’ statements as “a clear attempt at destabilisation that is unacceptable” coming from the head of the competition’s organising body.

In defence of their interests, Barcelona have initiated appropriate actions and issued a formal request that La Liga refrain from publicly disclosing any details or data related to the information or documentation provided by the club.

In addition, they have also requested the league to immediately remove from their official website the information note published on 2 April.

As mentioned earlier, Barcelona also confirmed that they have made the decision to withdraw from the group of clubs that, through a joint candidacy, currently form part of La Liga’s Delegate Commission.

Meanwhile, Barça, in their statement, acknowledge that La Liga has appealed the CSD’s resolution over the registration case.

The Catalans insist they expect to receive a copy of this appeal in order to respond accordingly to what they consider false claims and urge La Liga to refrain from attempting to influence legal decisions through public statements lacking rigour and objectivity.
