There is much excitement at Barcelona surrounding the recent performances of Frenkie de Jong, who has been a consistent performer for the club in the past few weeks.

However, excitement could soon turn into disappointment for Barcelona fans, when they realise that Barça’s attempt to renew the contract of de Jong could turn sour.

While the Dutchman is enjoying the current form, he is pretty much aware that Barcelona would demand a salary cut in order to extend his contract. And given the poor relationship between the two parties, there is a stark possibility the negotiations might not work out.

Jamal Musiala: The ideal replacement for de Jong?

Keeping that in mind, Barcelona appear to have already identified an ideal replacement for de Jong, should the club fail to extend the contract of the Dutchman.

According to Miguel Rico (h/t FCB World), the player in question is none other than Bayern Munich’s young wizard Jamal Musiala.

The report suggests Barça are looking to strengthen their midfield and Musiala has emerged as the first choice for the Blaugrana.

An impossible task?

That said, Barcelona are also aware of the fact that bringing Musiala from Bayern will not be easy as the player could cost a fortune.

Indeed, convincing Bayern to give up their star player who has a market value of €140 million will not be a walk in the park.

In fact, this could prove to be an impossible operation for the Catalans. But the club do realise that good players are often expensive.

Moreover, Musiala is a player who can actually improve the squad – both tactically and qualitatively. Given his age, he can also prove to be an excellent long-term prospect for the club.
