Over the past few days, there has been a lot of chatter surrounding Barcelona youngster Vitor Roque, currently on loan at Real Betis, and the interest he is attracting from Palmeiras.

The winter transfer window is open until the end of the month in Brazil and Palmeiras are eager to take the 19-year-old striker back to his homeland.

Reports had suggested that Real Betis had shut down any such possibility, but it appears that there has been a major development in the story.

Vitor Roque asks to leave

Indeed, as per a report relayed by SPORT, Vitor Roque has officially requested to leave Real Betis.

The young striker is eager to return to his home country and is keen to accept an offer from Palmeiras, who remain determined to secure his signing before the Brazilian transfer window closes at the end of February.

Palmeiras have already reached out to the player’s representatives and are prepared to offer him a lucrative contract. The Brazilian heavyweights are willing to pay Roque a salary higher than that of Paulinho, making him their franchise player.

However, any potential transfer requires approval from both Barcelona and Betis, with the latter reluctant to let Roque leave without financial compensation before completing even a full year of his loan.

Barcelona, for their part, have not been informed of any negotiations or of Roque’s reported desire to return to Brazil before the transfer window closes.

Roque joined Real Betis on a season-long loan with an option to extend that deal for another year while the La Liga club can also sign him permanently by paying €25 million for 80% of his rights.

Despite Roque’s desire to leave, Betis’ sporting management acknowledges that an immediate departure would be difficult. However, they admit that the striker will not remain at the club beyond this season.
