Despite their obvious financial limitations, FC Barcelona continue to look for ways to improve their squad. Even though the Catalan giants already have a promising group of players, some top-level additions never hurt. However, Barcelona must carefully assess which positions even need such arrivals.

Recently, news has come out suggesting that La Blaugrana are now interested in acquiring the services of 23-year-old Canadian fullback Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich. With the left-back’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2025, Barça could look to pursue his arrival as a free agent.

However, this recent development has left many questions unanswered regarding the future of Alejandro Balde. With Barcelona already possessing a player who was likened to Davies in the past, it makes little sense to pursue such a high-profile signing without considering its consequences on the homegrown left-back already at the club.

According to SPORT, the reality of the matter is that Barcelona have not given up on Balde. In fact, they are far from abandoning the young fullback and instead maintain faith in his abilities and his capability to step up and improve his performances even further.

While the 20-year-old Barcelona fullback has definitely improved from last season, he is still gradually finding the right rhythm as well. Following a difficult season that limited him from a tactical standpoint as well as a physical one, this campaign is Balde’s opportunity to find his best version again.

So far, he has only managed to show glimpses of his best qualities. As such, Barcelona are hoping for the player to build more on his offensive qualities and improve his output as well. At the moment, the player has only been directly involved in one goal and the club wants more out of him.

Having recently renewed his contract until 2028, there are clear signs that indicated Barça’s faith in their own youth product. Moreover, the player continues to have suitors in some of Europe’s biggest leagues but Barcelona want to hold onto the player for now and trust him to deliver for them.
