Having missed out on Endrick Felipe to bitter rivals Real Madrid, Barcelona had set their sights on his Palmeiras teammate, Estevao “Messinho” Willian. The 17-year-old is considered to be one of the brightest young talents in South America, and over the last 12 months, the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea have also registered their interest.
Estevao is a self-proclaimed Barcelona supporter, which gives the Catalans a big advantage in the race to secure his signature, although Sport have now reported that they have officially ended their interest.
Estevao typically plays a right winger, and Barcelona already have a certain Lamine Yamal in that position. They believe that the vast amount of money needed to buy the Brazilian teenager would be better spent on another area of the team, rather than signing a wonderkid in the same position.
If Barcelona were not in a financial crisis, they’d probably have tried to sign Estevao. However, it makes complete sense to avoid going for him, as other position certainly need addressed.
