Eric Garcia was one of Barcelona’s surprise performers in their recent defeat to Inter Milan this midweek.
Occupying the right-back position in the absence of Jules Kounde, Garcia produced a brilliant display, providing a perfect balance between attack and defence.
Garcia was solid defensively while he also scored the all-important first goal for Barcelona. He did miss a glaring goalscoring opportunity, but apart from that, his performance was top-notch.
Garcia’s performance against Inter Milan was yet another indicator that Barcelona should renew the contract of the versatile defender.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are open to extending Garcia’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2026.

However, any renewal talks would depend on whether or not the player wants to start negotiations in the first place.
Garcia, after all, is not someone who would remain at a club for a lucrative contract. Game time is important for the defender and this was something that was highlighted by the Spaniard.
Fortunately for him and Barcelona, he has gotten a lot of important minutes in Hansi Flick’s setup, especially after the turn of the year.
In recent months, Garcia has played not only as a centre-back but also as a defensive midfielder. Against Inter Milan, the former Man City starlet even operated as a right-back.
Such versatility can be very useful for Barcelona in the long run, and therefore, the club would be better advised to renew the contract of Garcia, who is unlikely to be opposed to the idea of continuing his career at Barça in the years to come.
