Barcelona President Joan Laporta gave an impassioned defence of himself and attack on his opposition on Tuesday, but next Monday he is due to appear in court. He will give testimony in a case of fraud, although it is not related to his time at Barcelona.

According to Marca, Laporta will testify regarding an alleged case of fraud which amounted to €4.7m on Monday in a local court in Barcelona. The incident harks back to 2014, when a family (husband, wife and daughter) won €34m in the lottery. When they went to purchase a luxury car, they were advised to invest in companies promoted by Laporta.

The case revolves around one business in particular, CSSB Limited, where they invested €2.4m over a period of three years with 6% annual interest. However the defendants allege that the contract is not valid, due to the fact it was redacted in English and without a legible signature. Laporta reportedly acted as a consultant in the operation, and he acted in the name of CSSB Limited. The family were even invited to the VIP seats at Camp Nou, but after the described period of time, did not receive the money promised, and company allegedly ended up with €4.7m out of the money they invested.
