It is bizarre that Barcelona’s last three defeats in La Liga have all come at home and the fact that it has happened in back-to-back home games only raises the concern.

Hansi Flick’s side have indeed been on a slump in recent months and the defeat to Las Palmas kicked off what has been a terrible run at home, only followed up by losses against Leganes and Atletico Madrid.

As relayed by Mundo Deportivo in a recent update, this is Barcelona’s third-worst run at home in a calendar year as the Blaugrana finish 2024 with a staggering five defeats at home.

An unwanted record

Barcelona’s record of five defeats at home over the past 360-odd days has only been beaten twice in the history of the club – 2003 and 2021.

21 years ago, the club lost to Valencia, Juventus, Mallorca, Valencia, Real Madrid and Deportivo twice, taking the tally to seven defeats at home that campaign.

In 2021, meanwhile, they lost six times at home, albeit with the first three games being played without an audience owing to the pandemic.

If the statistic of the current year being the third worst in history is not triggering enough, the last time Barcelona lost three straight games at home was 59 years ago when they lost to Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Real Zaragoza in 1987-88.

The Blaugrana are indeed playing at a foster home at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys and the atmosphere is nowhere close to the Spotify Camp Nou.

Yet, fans have turned up in good numbers this season and that cannot be an excuse.

With the renovation work at Camp Nou likely to extend until the end of the season, Barcelona will play the remainder of the campaign at Montjuic as well and must look to turn around their situation in 2025.
