A leading member of the defensive ranks at Barcelona has established himself as the standout stopper in all of La Liga across the season to date.

That’s according to WhoScored, who point towards Iñigo Martínez as the player in question.

Defender Iñigo has for his part of course enjoyed nothing short of a brilliant campaign to date.

One of the first names on the Barca team sheet, the 33-year-old has struck up a superb partnership with youngster Pau Cubarsí.

Iñigo has shone not only from a defensive standpoint, but on the ball, too, with his long-undervalued technical talents having been on full display.

Previously considered by many to be a tier below the standard required for a club of Barcelona’s stature, the former Athletic Club man, in turn, has firmly silenced his many doubters.

So much so that, as alluded to above, Iñigo can now call himself the very best defensive performer in Spain’s top-flight.
