Barcelona could not secure the lead they so desperately wished for in the first leg against Inter Milan midweek. The 3-3 result now means they have to start from scratch at San Siro to reach the final of the Champions League.
The Catalans, however, suffered a big blow during the first game in the form of an injury to Jules Kounde, a player who barely ever misses a game with physical troubles.
The player suffered a blow to his biceps femoris muscle against the Italians and left the field injured in the first half. His return will be governed by the progress he makes.
Coming out on his Instagram after the blow, the Barcelona right-back revealed his disappointment over suffering an injury at such a crucial moment in the season.
“So disappointed to pick up an injury at this moment of the season, where everything is on the line, but sometimes there’s only so much you can control.”
The Frenchman then went on to convey his full faith in the team and was confident that they would continue to work hard, unperturbed, despite the blow.
“Full trust that this team will get the job done no matter who’s on the pitch. Thank you all for your support, it means a lot.”
Having suffered an injury to his biceps femoris muscle, Kounde is expected to be out for at least three weeks and will thus miss most of the remaining campaign.
He is definitely ruled out of the second leg against Inter Milan and the clash against Real Madrid in La Liga. There is, however, a chance that he will return for the UCL final should Barcelona qualify.
Until then, Flick will continue using Eric Garcia at right-back, for the Spaniard has been phenomenal covering Kounde’s place in recent games.
