FC Barcelona currently possess one of the most promising squads in world football. With emerging stars like Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Gavi, Pau Cubarsi, and Alejandro Balde, the Blaugrana are building a formidable foundation for the future. The most exciting part? Most of these players are still years away from hitting their peak.
La Masia has been a conveyor belt for young talent in recent seasons, and it has ensured that Barcelona are sorted out in most areas of the field. It has already given the first-team a gem of a center-back in Pau Cubarsi and Eman Kospo is not far behind.
However, despite their academy’s success, it hasn’t stopped Barcelona from keeping an eye out on the top talents in world football who could be a part of the squad. Among those names, one that seems to interest them is Spanish center-back Dean Huijsen.

As per Spanish publication Fichajes, Barcelona tried to make a late move to sign the talented defender from Premier League club Bournemouth with the player closing in on a transfer to arch rivals Real Madrid. However, their attempt was not successful.
It has been stated that the move that Barcelona made was at the request of Hansi Flick, who wanted the player in his squad. Unfortunately though, it looks like the German manager might not get his way with this request.
The report mentions that the player have categorically informed the Catalan club that he has no intention to wear the Red and Blue of Blaugrana and would rather wear the white of Madrid. Well, as Johan Cruyff says, “if you have second thoughts on playing for Barcelona, you are no longer of service to us”.
Huijsen is undoubtedly a top-tier talent. He has had a brilliant season in Andoni Iraola’s setup at Bournemouth and has also made his debut for the Spain first team. The 20-year-old is the perfect modern-day center-back.

With it increasingly looking like Real Madrid would wrap up his signature, he would be an excellent addition to Xabi Alonso’s squad. He could play the role that Piero Hincapie executed to perfection at Bayer Leverkusen.
As for Barcelona, they have Cubarsi, Christensen, Inigo Martinez, Ronald Araujo, Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde who can all play in central defence and Eman Kospo waiting in the wings. Only time will tell how the young defender’s career unfolds in Madrid, but Barca fans can rest assured their defensive future is already in very capable hands.
