After not having made any changes in their squad in the last winter transfer window, FC Barcelona are likely to bring some new faces to the team in the next summer transfer window.
The left wing and the centre-forward position are two of the areas the Blaugranes are looking to reinforce with the highest priority. Meanwhile, in addition to these positions, the Catalans would also like to bring some more reliable substitutes for their starters on the flanks, i.e., Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde, who have been key players for Flick this season.
For the left-back position, Fichajes reports that one of the candidates that Barcelona have in mind is their fullback defender Alejandro Grimaldo, who is currently plying his trade with the German side Bayer Leverkusen.
The Blaugrana board and Hansi Flick both believe that Grimaldo will be an ideal addition for their left-back position, as he would not only provide cover for Balde but would also bring significant competition for this position. Joan Laporta is particularly excited to bring him back and is already studying ways to make his return a reality.
The report goes on to claim that Barcelona can shell out €40 million to bring him back. Meanwhile, the defender himself will be keen to return to the Blaugrana club despite him being a key part of the Bayer Leverkusen team.
Grimaldo was unable to make his debut with the first team before leaving the Catalan club but has been able to stand out during his various stints in Europe. First, he emerged as a promising fullback with Benfica, before making the move to Germany to play under Xabi Alonso.
His performances with Bayer Leverkusen have been quite excellent, as he has regularly contributed with goals and assists, and was a part of the team that won the Bundesliga title last season.
However, Barcelona will have to make significant room in their wage bill to be able to incorporate Grimaldo into their team, while it also remains to be seen whether Leverkusen are open to negotiating a sale of such an important member of their squad.
