Barcelona are carefully assessing their right-back options for the future, with the final decision largely depending on Jules Kounde’s contract renewal.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the club’s approach will differ based on whether the French defender commits to an extended stay or not.

Kounde, who is under contract until 2027, is aware that Barcelona are eager to secure his long-term future. If he agrees to a renewal, the club will look for a cost-effective right-back to provide competition in the squad.

However, this new signing would need to be a step above Hector Fort in terms of quality, ensuring the team maintains a strong defensive setup.

What if he refuses?

Interestingly, if Kounde chooses not to renew, Barcelona could take a different route. In such a scenario, the club may consider putting him on the transfer market to generate funds for a high-profile replacement.

This would lead to the search for a more expensive right-back, as the club would need a guaranteed starter in that position. The sporting department is already evaluating various options to strengthen the right flank.

Among the affordable choices in La Liga, one of the standout names is Andrei Ratiu from Rayo Vallecano. His contract runs until 2028, and his release clause stands at €25 million.

Another option being considered is Marc Pubill from Almeria, an Under-21 international who was linked with Barcelona last season. His signing is expected to be financially feasible.

The bigger investment

However, if Barcelona decide to make a bigger investment, they have more expensive alternatives in mind.

Sporting director Deco recently had the opportunity to watch two potential targets in action during the Brazil vs. Colombia match and one of them is Vanderson, the 23-year-old full-back from AS Monaco.

Despite his talent, his transfer fee could be a major obstacle, as sources close to him suggest Monaco would not accept anything below €40 million.

With multiple scenarios at play, Barcelona must carefully weigh their options. The final decision will hinge on Kounde’s stance regarding his future, as his renewal or departure will significantly influence the club’s transfer strategy.
