In a season where positives have been difficult to find, many can be taken from AC Milan’s draw against Inter on Wednesday night, and Franco Baresi believes it can be a huge result.

Over the past few years, the Derby della Madonnina has become a dread for many, but this season, Milan have not succumbed to Simone Inzaghi’s team, with them winning two games, and drawing the other two.

You have to feel, though, that the last game of this saga will be the most important and influential of the lot. If the Rossoneri find a victory, then they will reach the Coppa Italia, which would directly stop their bitter rivals from winning another trophy this season, after the Supercoppa Italiana earlier this season.

Speaking to RaiSport, the iconic defender spoke about the derby, and what it can mean for the Rossoneri moving forward at the end of the season, and Milan News have relayed his words of optimism.

What kind of derby was it?

“The derby was a good match, balanced. Milan played a good match, compact, with sacrifice: it’s a pity we didn’t win, but we respect Inter. We’ll try to qualify for the return leg.”

Is there hope for the final?

“Milan have shown that they play on equal terms with Inter, we have always managed to create problems for them. There is positivity and hope. We must know that it will be a very difficult match, the derby is always very open. We’ll play it to the end.”

How do we come out of this season?

“We always have to think about who we represent and who we are. Even this year we have shown that we are often up to the best, but we must have more continuity in our performances and results.”
